A white van caught on camera dumping “at least 12 mattresses” on the side of a road in Norris Green, Liverpool was seized and crushed by the city council. A witness captured the group of fly-tippers in the act and reported the incident to The ECHO. The council immediately launched an investigation and discovered that the van was involved in multiple instances of serious fly-tipping across the city. Just as the council was preparing to seize the van, Merseyside Police uncovered that it had no road tax, leading to the vehicle being crushed.
Cllr Liam Robinson, Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, spoke about the council’s efforts to combat fly-tipping in the city under its new “Keep Liverpool Tidy” program. He warned that those caught fly-tipping could face hefty fines, saying, “Is a £400 fine worth the hassle? And that could rise even higher depending on the case.” The council is taking a strong stance against fly-tipping and aims to keep the city free of illegal dumping.
