Over the weekend, a disturbing incident occurred in Binstead on the Isle of Wight where a significant number of charity bags belonging to Cancer Care Trust and an e-scooter from Beryl were found dumped in a nearby stream. The charity bags were found discarded in the brook located off Binstead Lodge Road, and surprisingly, a Beryl e-scooter was also found thrown in the same location despite the presence of a Beryl station nearby on Binstead Road.
A member of the public who came across the discarded items has alerted the Isle of Wight Council. However, the council has stated that since the dumping occurred on land not owned by them, it needs to be reported to the Environment Agency.
This disturbing incident comes at a time when data from Defra has shown a sharp increase of 48% in fly-tipping incidents on the Isle of Wight. The motive behind the dumping remains unclear, but it is suspected that the person responsible for distributing the charity bags may have chosen to dispose of them in this irresponsible manner instead of delivering them door-to-door.
At this time, there has been no response from Cancer Care Trust regarding the incident.
